MRIU becomes India's first University to incorporate TCS online semester test

Approximately 3,000 students are appearing in the online internal examination developed by TCS in 18 subjects spread over 7 days 

Manav Rachna International University (MRIU), Faridabad, one of the leading universities in North India has achieved yet another unique distinction of conducting ‘On line’ internal examination of students of Bachelor of Technology Programmes being offered in the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, using Touchstone Application developed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). 

MRIU has become the 1st University in the country to deploy Touchstone Application of TCS for conducting online internal assessment of B.Tech students during the 1st sessional exams being held from 28th February to 8th March, 2011. 

Touchstone Application has been developed by TCS for conducting online assessment for recruitment of its employees across the globe having a Question Bank consisting of millions of questions for testing aptitude and aspirant’s skill set and domain knowledge. 2999 students are appearing in the online internal examination in 18 subjects spread over 7 days on pilot basis. 

TCS has been successfully using this tool over the years, designed for simultaneous conduct of online assessment at 800 locations with maximum 800 candidates at a single location. The Application has been tested by TCS at number of occasions and more than 2,50,000 candidates have simultaneously appeared across various centers at a time. The unique feature of the assessment is that each student gets a unique question paper having questions with the similar difficulty levels and the result is available immediately after the exam is over. 

MRIU faculty has developed questions banks in consultation with TCS Experts and the Application has been successfully installed and tested. 

Providing further details about this unique tool Prashant Bhalla, Senior Vice President, MRIU said “Now we intend to bring more and more subjects for online assessments in the 2nd sessional exams to be conducted in April, 2011 across various programmes and Faculties. The process of development of question banks has been initiated with a view to conduct some of the semesters end examinations through ONLINE mode in May, 2011 and gradually to employ this application on a much larger scale in the coming 2-3 years.” 

“This reformative action by MRIU shall cut down the time of declaration of results from 4 weeks to 7-10 days and the process of re-evaluation shall also stand dispensed with. It may be possible in the very near future to declare the results immediately after a student signs off the examination process.” he further added. 

This is another milestone achieved by MRIU and TCS jointly after TCS-MRIU Pragati Project, which has been launched first time in the country to train students in such a manner that they are able to deliver at the work place from day zero without any retraining.
