Awarding the scholarships to meritorious students provided by Huawei, author Chetan Bhagat, who lived in China for over a decade, asked the students to understand Chinese culture and bring the knowledge gained there back home.
Called 'Huawei Maitree Scholarship', it covers the tuition fees and living expenses upto an amount of Rs 5 lakh each. This is the second consecutive year that Huawei is awarding such scholarships to students.
Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan, who was present at the function, congratulated the students and their parents on the occasion.
Bhagat, the brand ambassador of Huawei, effused praise on China's emergence as a global player and said the Communist nation is literally showing the world how to develop.
"They are far ahead of us. It is not competition. One-third of the humanity lives in China and India, and it is not like one has to do better than other. If we are together, we can contribute to the mankind," he said.
Bhagat advised the students to learn from Chinese culture and "behave well" with students there as they would be judged by their behaviour.
"Chinese people are action-oriented people and we Indians are discussion-oriented. Sometimes we need to discuss a lot. There is a lot to learn from them," he said.
He said the affection between people of the two countries should not "stop at the borders".
Rita Chatterjee, Joint Secretary, School Education and Literacy in the Ministry of HRD, listed the initiatives being taken by the Ministry in bridging the gap between urban and rural areas in education sector.
