Hundred more 'one stop centres' for helping women in distress will be set up in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, according to an official statement.

The proposals for these additional centres were approved in a programme approval board meeting of the Ministry of Women and Child Development today.

The ministry has set up 182 such centres since April, 2015. Over 1.3 lakh women affected by violence have been assisted at these centres till date in 33 states and union territories.

These centres act as a one-stop facility to provide all kinds of aid to women in distress including medical help, counselling, legal and police assistance, besides providing them with temporary stay.
