A special train carrying Gandhiji arrived at Bapu Dham station here today to carry forward the fight of farmers against forced indigo cultivation under the British rule.
Re-enacting history on the centenary celebration of Gandhiji's Champaran Satyagraha, a man in the attire of the Father of the Nation alighted from the train and was received by Union Minister and local MP Radha Mohan Singh and Tara Gandhi, grand daughter of Mahatama Gandhi.
Many children holding the tricolour were present at the Bapu Dham station, Motihari railway station rechristened after Mahatama Gandhi a few years back, to witness history unfolding before them.
The Railway station was decked up for the occasion.
As the man in the role of Gandhiji got down on the platform, slogans like "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Champaran Satyagraha Zindabad" rang in the air.
Assistant Station Master of Motihari Khursheed Iqbal said the same train would leave for Bettiah on April 22, as had happened in 1917.
As part of the Champaran Satyagraha centenary celebrations, the entire episode linked with Mahatama Gandhi and his fight against indigo cultivation, Bapu's first agitation against the British rule, is being re-enacted for people, particularly the younger generation to give them a feeling of the great historical event.
