The passenger bus, plying between Aizawl and Lawngtlai, headquarter of Lawngtlai district, rolled down the gorge near Ramlaitui village last night.
The deceased included four women, of whom two were pregnant, and the driver of the bus, police said.
The cause of the accident was yet to be determined.
However, the police suspect that the driver might have been dozed off or was drunk.
The injured were taken to a hospital at Thenzawl in Serchhip district.
