Rahul (30) and Buntee (28), residents of Meerut, were staying in a rented accommodation in sector 23 of Sanjay Nagar. Last night, their friend Naresh Prajapati also joined them. They then consumed liquor. One of them later threw a burning cigarette on the clothings, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranvijay Singh said.
Their neighbourers noticed smoke and flames billowing out of the room and informed their house owner and the fire department, Singh said.
Naresh suffered severe burn injuries in the incident. He was rushed to a nearby nursing home, from where he was referred to New Delhi's GTB Hospital, where doctors stated that his condition is stable, Singh added.
