A departmental inquiry has been initiated against two policemen after a man, who allegedly killed himself here, accused them of harassing him in a suicide note, a senior official said.
Jasbir Singh Bittu (32) hanged himself at his house in Shajrana village, and he alleged in a "suicide note" that his neighbours and the police officials had harassed him, Superintendent of Police Mukhtiar Singh said today.
The man was found dead on June 7 and on the next day Assistant Sub Inspector Amarjit Singh was suspended while SHO at Arniwala Police Station, Barjinder Singh, was sent to the Police Lines, he said.
"A departmental inquiry has been initiated against the policemen. We are verifying the suicide note," the officer said.
He said the victim, who was associated with the SAD, had alleged in the suicide note that the SHO, ASI and his neighbours were harassing him over a dispute on a water source.
His neighbour had lodged a police complaint in the matter a year ago, the officer said.
"Hukum Chand, Ashok Kumar, Lal Chand, Ramesh Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Sandeep Kumar, Amandeep and Lachhman Dass, have been booked for abatement to suicide as their names were mentioned in the note," the SP said.
