"The trio, posted at Mahendra Park police station of North West district, has been sent to district police lines and they may face further punitive action in the case after through probe," a senior police official said.
A local jeweller had sometime back approached the top brass of Delhi Police accusing the trio of keeping him under illegal detention for nearly 36 hours and released him only after extorting Rs five lakh after threatening him of booking him in a false case.
Following the report, a case under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the three police personnel and they were sent to the district police lines. Further investigations are on in this case.
