suicide in the district here today.
Police said 35-year-old K Shivanna of Sadaolalu consumed pesticide on his farmland as he was unable to repay a loan of Rs 3 lakh that he had taken from moneylenders while 30-year-old Prakash of Doddapalaya hung himself from a ceiling fan due to a family dispute.
Thirteen farmers have allegedly committed suicide in the last 23 days, including the two today, in the sugarcane belt of Mandya district in Karnataka where cane growers are in distress with mills not paying their dues and not crushing the cane.
