Two minor girls were crushed to death when a truck ran over them on national highway near Vellore village in Odisha's Balasore district today, police said.
The girls were heading to a study centre when they came under the wheels of the truck on NH-60 under the jurisdiction of Basta police station, they said.
The deceased were identified as Rupa Das (10) and Gauri Nath (13) of Vellora village.
While speeding away from the spot, the truck also hit a motorcycle on the highway, injuring a man and his son, who were admitted to Basta hospital, police said.
Agitated locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation to victims' families.
