A man who claimed to be a relative of Telanganas IT and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao, and allegedly threatened a woman revenue official while she was monitoring demolition of illegal structures, was arrested today.
According to the District Collector of Medchal Malkajgiri M V Reddy, on March 13 the man identified as R Rangarao, "manhandled" the driver of a earth moving machine. He also threatened a woman revenue official when a group of officials had gone there to demolish some "illegal" structures near a pond.
Rangarao "prevented" the officials from discharging their official duties, the Collector said.
In a video which had gone viral on social media, Rangarao was purportedly seen beating up a man (driver) besides arguing with a woman official against the demolition drive and threatening her claiming to be a relative of Minister.
The matter was brought to the notice of the Minister, who said that stern action should be initiated against those who indulge in threatening officials while discharging their duties, the Collector said, adding a case was registered against Rangarao at Petbasheerabad police station and subsequently he was arrested.
Earlier in the day, the minister tweeted "Request Telangana DGP and Cyberabad Commissioner of Police to look into this (matter) and take action against the gentleman if found guilty.
