2 nabbed in Delhi with 6 kg heroin worth Rs 24 crore

Two suspected drug peddlers, belonging to an interstate narcotic cartel, were nabbed from near Commonwealth Games village with six kilogram of heroin worth Rs 24 crores in the international market, police said on Friday.

According to police, the two accused, Ikram (30) and Arvind Rana (35), have been supplying heroin to their clients in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh's Meerut and Saharanpur for the last 10 years.

In they last one year, they have supplied over 80 kg of heroin to drug peddlers in Delhi, a police official said.

Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid underneath a flyover near Commonwealth Games village on Delhi-Meerut Expressway, where the two accused were supposed to arrive to deliver a consignment to one of their contacts, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said.

At 12.20 pm, a car, which was spotted coming from Gazipur border, was stopped near the flyover. Two accused, who were in the car, were overpowered and initially four kg of heroin was seized, he said.

After a thorough search of the car another two kg heroin was seized, the officer said.

During interrogation, Ikram and Rana disclosed that they were members of an interstate narcotic cartel and the seized heroin was procured by them from a person based in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Kushwah said.

They also told the police that the Bareilly-based person is a drug supplier and is on parole in a case of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act.

A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway to trace the main supplier, the police officer said.
