Three persons, including two policemen from Gujarat, have been arrested in the district for allegedly accepting over Rs 90,000 as bribe, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) said here today.
The accused trio were identified as police constables Wasim Khan Pathan and Sannabai Sodaparmar and a truck driver Mustakan Vohra who accepted money on their behalf.
The policemen duo from Gujarat had demanded Rs one lakh from the complainant against whom a case of torture and abetment of suicide had been registered at a police station in Nadiad in Gujarat, Police Inspector Archana Doundkar of Thane ACB said.
The complainant had been released on bail and the court at Nadiad had asked the police to re-investigate the complaint against him.
According to Doundkar, the police duo from Gujarat demanded Rs one lakh bribe to give a report in favour of him.
The aggrieved complainant then approached the Thane unit of ACB officials who laid a trap and apprehended the truck driver while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 91,000 at a hotel in Thane district on December 5.
"The driver accepted the money on behalf of the policemen," an ACB release said.
After the driver identified the two policemen from Gujarat, they were brought to Thane district. The trio were produced before a court here, which remanded them in police custody till tomorrow.
