Congress today termed 2015 as a year of "gross misrule" in Haryana and said that it was marked by U-turns on the promises made by the BJP government and an insensitivity towards the interests of farmers even as the Manohar Lal Khattar government claimed to have brought about changes in key sectors in the state.
"The year would be remembered for the countless U-turns made by the BJP government, farmers and Dalits suicide, deteriorating law and order situation, paddy scam and a huge let down for consumers who longed for the oft-promised Achhe Din but instead got rising prices," Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Kiran Choudhry said.
"All these added up to one year of gross misrule of the BJP government," she added.
Listing the promises on which the BJP government went back, Choudhry in a statement said, "These include failure to implement the Swaminathan Commission report, the promise of making power available for 24 hours, of doubling the social security pension...To count a few."
"2015 will be remembered as a year when suicides both by farmers and Dalits became a trend in the state. Debt-ridden farmers, unable to pay off loans following successive crop failures, committed suicide. Persecuted, some Dalits too ended their lives as the government looked the other way," she said.
"Worse still, the BJP government turned a blind eye to the worsening law and order situation in the state. Every other day, a woman was raped and a Dalit killed," she alleged.
"Instead of serving the people, the BJP government has spent 2015 recycling and rechristening policies and programmes pursued by the (previous) Congress government. People are getting fed up. Criticism has already started...People have started asking when will the 'Acche Din' BJP come," she said.
However, the BJP government claimed that 2015 will go down in history "as the one which brought Haryana on the cusp of a big change", especially in key fields like agriculture, education, industry, power and infrastructure, an official release said today.
Several key decisions taken by the BJP government in the state dictated the political discourse, it said.
"These include providing transparent and graft-free administration through e-governance; reducing interface between the public and government functionaries; minimising interview marks at the time of selection; rendering citizen- centric services in a time-bound manner, and giving women a safe and secure environment," it said.
Most of the public services are now on e-mode. Land registration has been made easy and IT-enabled and several services offered by the health, revenue, education, industrial training and education departments are available online.
"Land deals, a major source of easy money for many, have been made online. Touts are out, middlemen have been marginalised and graft is being kicked out with the help of IT," it further said.
