230 students get Indira Awards

Delhi government today presented the Indira Awards to 230 students, 35 teachers and 38 heads of schools in the national capital at a ceremony here.
Congratulating the recipients at the 16th Indira Awards Ceremony, Principal Secretary (Education) Anindo Majumdar said these awards were given to enthuse a spirit of cooperation, and excellence among the schools, teachers and students.
Majumdar also stressed on the security of students and asked school authorities to take necessary action to prevent any untoward incident.
"Apart from providing education to students, the school authorities should give top priority to security and safety of students as it is a huge responsibility on the Education Department.
"The parents and guardians send their children to schools as they are confident and have full faith in government. In such a case, school administration should take all necessary action to prevent any untoward incident," he said.
The official also said that in all monetary beneficial schemes meant for the welfare of students, the money should reach the needy student at the earliest.
The Indira Awards are given every year, with the best school in the state getting a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 and a running trophy and the best school in each of the eleven districts getting Rs 50,000 and a trophy.
The best teacher award at the zonal level and district level carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a medal. Best students from each zone are given Rs 5,000 and a medal.
