2G case: evasive witness warned, apologises to special judge

A CBI witness, who was "evasive" in answering the queries posed during the 2G spectrum allocation scam case trial, was today cautioned by a Delhi court after which he tendered an apology.
Deposing as a witness, Mohamed Gulamali Morani, a younger brother of Cineyug Films (P) Ltd Director and co-accused Karim Morani, was initially caught on the wrong foot by Special CBI Judge O P Saini who "warned" him to be careful.
"The witness (Mohamed Gulamali Morani) is evasive in his replies and is trying to twist the facts. He has been advised repeatedly orally since morning to desist from these things but he is still doing the same. He is warned to be careful, failing which action shall be taken against him as per law," the judge observed.

However, as day's proceedings was about to conclude, the witness apologised to the judge for his conduct and the court said that after being warned earlier, he has conducted himself "very well".
"It is submitted by the witness and Pinaki Misra, senior advocate, (appearing for Karim Morani) that in the forenoon session, the witness was over enthusiastic. The witness apologises for the same. After earlier court observation, the witness conducted himself very well," the special judge said.
Karim Morani, along with former Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and others, is facing trial for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation case.

CBI, in its second charge sheet filed against Karim Morani, Kanimozhi and three others, had alleged that Rs 200 crore "illegal gratification" was routed from Dynamix Realty to Kalaignar TV through Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd and Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd.
