3 arrested for robbing woman

Three persons were arrested here today for allegedly robbing a woman at gun point at her residence last night, while a former cadre of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council militant escaped, police said.
The robbers had gone to the house of one D Rapthap in Mawsynram and looted Rs 30,000 from her at gun point, they said.
Acting on a tip off, police immediately swung into action and conducted vehicle checks on the Dangar-Mawsynram road and intercepted the vehicle at Pomblang village and arrested the driver and the two of the passengers.
"We have arrested three of them while an ex-HNLC cadre who was also involved in the robbery managed to escaped taking advantage of a jungle nearby," District SP (City) Vivek Syiem told reporters.
The accused were identified as Pynshai Rani, Barabor Namsaw and Raj Jamatia and from their possession, a 9mm pistol along with one magazine and four 9mm rounds along with cash of Rs 6666 were seized, Syiem said.
The rest of the money was with the former militant Synsharlang Thongni who escaped.
The accused were regular offenders and have been arrested before in several robbery cases and thefts, the SP said.
Rani has been arrested for his involvement in at least 21 cases and he was also booked under Meghalaya Prevention Detention Act (MPDA) twice.
He further informed that Thongni was also arrested for murder and robbery and was also arrested in Mawkyrwat last year for helping the HNLC in their activities.
