Janjgir-Champa Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said that a case of attempted murder was registered yesterday against Mahadev Rathore (56) and his daughter Pushpa (32) at Singhansara village under the Shakti police station limits.
On March 31, a 30-year-old-girl from Singhansara village lodged a police complaint that she was allegedly raped several times by Krishna Rathore (30) of the same village under the pretext of marrying her.
When he refused to marry her, she lodged a police complaint after which the accused went absconding.
After she refused to do so, they tried to murder her by poisoning her, the ASP said.
Hearing the girl's screams, villagers rushed her to a local hospital where she is being treated, the ASP said.
The duo have been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, he said.
Mahadev has been arrested, though a hunt is on to nab his daughter Pushpa who escaped from the spot, police said, adding that the police is also looking for Krishna.
