3 cops injured after attack by bootleggers in Gujarat

Three policemen were injured after they were attacked allegedly by bootleggers during a raid, at Umrat village in Bardoli teshil of Surat district, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off that Arvind Rathod was carrying a consignment of IMFL bottles, a team of police from Bardoli police station raided Mandir Falia locality in Umrat late last night, they said.
After the police seized around 44 quarter bottles of IMFL worth Rs 2,200 from his possession, they were attacked by a group of around 40-45 persons who were armed with wooden sticks and iron rods, an official at Bardoli police station said.

"Around 40-45 persons attacked a team of 5-6 policemen who were conducting the raid and injured three constables attached to the Bardoli police station," he said.
The accused then decamped with seized bottles of liquor.
Yogesh Chauhan, Bipinbhai and Satishbhai sustained serious injuries and were being treated at a hospital, police said.
A case was lodged against Rathod and unidentified persons under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 333 (causing grievous hurt to public servant), 395 (dacoity) of IPC and relevant sections of Bombay Prohibition (Gujarat Amendment) Act, he said, adding no arrests were made so far.
