3 killed as jeep falls into pond in C'garh

An elderly couple and their minor granddaughter were killed and 10 others injured when the jeep they were travelling in fell into a pond in Surajpur district, police said today.
The mishap occurred when the victims were returning to their native Nagoigadh-Durgapur village in Ramanujganj late last evening after offering prayers at a temple in Devipur village under Surajpur police station limits, station house officer MR Nikunj said.
As the vehicle reached near the pond, the driver lost control over it following which the jeep fell into the water body, he said.
Ramcharan (65), his wife Hirmuniya Bai (60) and their granddaughter Sunita (7) died on the spot, he said.

Later, the police fished out the bodies with the help of locals. The injured were shifted to a local government hospital, he said.
A case has been registered in this connection, the SHO said, adding that further probe was on.
