Three class six girl students of an Adidravidar Residential School suffered burns in their palms after they were allegedly forced by a group of seniors to hold a burning camphor for truth test after Rs 150 went missing.
Revenue officials today visited the school at Karumanduari near Attur in the district and held an inquiry into the incident, District Revenue Officer S Selvaraj told PTI.
According to him, cash of Rs 150 was noticed missing from the room of three class IX students at the hostel on February 12.
The seniors had then enquired three class six students suspecting them of stealing the money.
When victims said that they have not taken the cash, the seniors allegedly asked them to swear by holding the burning camphor in their hands.
The victims who suffered burns were treated in the local primary health centre and school authorities allegedly attempted to suppress the incident.
However, parents of the injured girls took up the matter with officials following which it came to the knowledge of district administration a couple of days ago.
The DRO said action would be taken against the school headmaster who was holding additional charge of the hostel in the absence of a warden.
