Forest officials today seized 36 bags of banned conches from a lorry at nearby Mandapam and arrested two persons, officials said.
They said forest rangers inspected the lorry on suspicion and found two types of conches concealed in the bags. On being questioned, the duo reportedly confessed that the conches were smuggled from Tuticorin to this coastal town.
The conches and lorry were seized, they said, adding the exact value of the conches would be known after a detailed examination by officials concerned.
