Four masked men allegedly looted cash worth over Rs 2 lakh from a branch of the Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank in broad daylight here today.
The armed robbers barged into the bank's Hanspuram Awas Vikas branch in Naubasta this afternoon and allegedly hurled four to five crude bombs at a cash window and escaped with Rs 2 lakh from the cash counter, a police official said.
The motorcycle-borne men hardly took two minutes in executing the plan. Two bank employees, including a lady cashier, were injured. There were about 24 customers and staffs at the time of the incident, said Alok Singh, Inspector General, Kanpur range.
The bank guard tried to chase them, but the pillion riders hurled a bomb at him too, Senior Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar said.
The footage of one of them has been caught on CCTV camera. A cash reward of Rs 50,000 has been announced for providing information about the man, whose picture has been released, the SSP said.
Six teams, headed by circle officers and superintendent of police, have been constituted to investigate the incident and the crime branch has also been pressed into the task, he added.
