40-year-old woman trampled to death

A 40-year old woman was trampled to death by a stray elephant in a farm in Madukkarai in the city today, police said.
The woman, Nagamani was plucking some medicinal plants from the farm in Ayyarthotam, when the elephant came from behind and trampled her. It also lifted her by its trunk and banged to the ground, resulting in her instantaeneous death, they said.
Senior forest and district officials are investigating.
