43 cartons of illegal liquor seized in UP; 2 held

Two persons have been arrested here for allegedly smuggling 43 cartons of illegal liquor worth about Rs seven lakh into Uttar Pradesh, ahead of the Panchayat elections in the state, an official said today.
Excise Department officials along with the police intercepted a car last evening near Mathura village in Charthawal area and arrested two persons with the liquor, being smuggled from Haryana, District Excise Officer Karunendra Singh said.
The accused were identified as Harbindra and Shyamlal while their accomplice, one Ramesh managed to escape, he said.
20 forged holograms and a car were also seized from their possession, Singh said.

The liquor is worth around Rs seven lakh, the district excise officer said, adding, it was being smuggled to UP for supplying during the upcoming Panchayat polls.
