Non-official directors are appointed on the boards of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) by the ministries concerned on the basis of recommendations of the search committee.
Similarly, there is a search panel for recommending the names for the posts at Public Sector Banks (PSBs).
"There are 360 and 104 vacant positions of non-official directors in CPSEs and PSBs," Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
The search committee had recommended names for filling up 233 positions of non-official director on the boards of CPSEs in 2016, he said.
