As many as 48 types of sports that were stopped in schools in Maharashtra two years ago have been restarted now, Minister of School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare Ashish Shelar said on Thursday.
These sporting disciplines include belt wrestling, futsal, uni-fight, throw-ball, mini-golf, field archery, thigh boxing, table soccer and langadi, among others, he said.
Shelar was speaking at a function organised at a school here to witness the launch of nationwide 'Fit India' movement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The sports directorate had stopped as many as 48 types of games in 2017. But now all these sports have been started as part of schools' sports activities," he said.
Sports inculcate team spirit among students and help them become healthy, both physically and mentally, Shelar said.
