49 injured in lightning strikes

At least 49 people were injured when lightning struck them at a tea garden in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district today, officials said.

The workers of the Palashbari Tea garden under Dhupguri block of the district were plucking tea leaves when lightning struck them, they said.

Superintendent of Banarhat Hospital, Chanchal Rakshit said 49 people injured in lightning strike were rushed to the hospital.

Five of the seriously injured were referred to Bannarhat state general hospital while 15 others were discharged after first-aid, he said.
