"India and the US are partners in this fight. These conclaves are held together by a common underlying thread to build a network of champions against human trafficking," US Consul General Helen LaFave said here today.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the conclave, she recalled US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting in January and their commitment to combating human trafficking.
Saying the scourge has become a major issue in the world, LaFave said the focus was on public awareness about human trafficking, with important partners being NGOs, civil society and the media.
The conclave would bring together key stakeholders at the local, regional, national and international levels from Bangladesh, Nepal, Burma, France, the United States and India, according to a press release.
