The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the family travelling in their sedan was rammed by a white minivan, which according to the police had sped through a red light.
The five deceased were identified in the local media as Pawandeep Arjot (31) her two children, Annish Sachdeva (5) and Jessica Sachdeva (3) her sister-in-law Neelam Dhingra (47) and her mother-in-law Vidya Sachdeva (68).
Pawandeep's husband Gurmeet owns an Indian sweet shop in the Surrey district of British Columbia.
It added that the sedan was ripped apart into two with the impact of the crash, killing the family instantly.
