"The train started from Kankaha railway station and at 2.58 AM near Mohanlalganj the train driver felt that something hit fuel tank, before the place where the track was tampered with. He immediately stopped the train, thus averting a major accident," Divisional Railway Manager, Northern Railway A K Lahoti told PTI here.
After the train driver informed the station master, railway officials rushed to the spot and found that 50 cm track was cut and the portion was found 100 metres away from the track, he said.
Police has been informed about the incident, Lahoti said.
Meanwhile, Railways have ordered a departmental inquiry into the possibility of sabotage.
