55.68 per cent turnout in Chalfilh bypoll

A voter turnout of 55.68 per cent was recorded in the by-election to the Chalfilh Assembly seat in Mizoram today, state joint chief electoral officer H Lalengmawia said.
Polling ended peacefully at 5:00 pm with 17,054 electorate sealing the fate of seven candidates, Lalengmawia said.
Aizawl district SP L R Dingliana Sailo described the polling as completely peaceful.
The bypoll was necessitated after the demise of sitting legislator Chawngtinthanga of Congress on September 16 last year.
