Modi is contesting against All India Congress Committee general secretary Madhusudhan Mistry.
Congress' Dinsha Patel is contesting from Kheda, Bharatsinh Solanki from Anand, while former union minister Naranbhai Rathwa is contesting from Chhota Udaipur.
Political observers said that Modi is seeking to recover from the BJP's losses in Central Gujarat. Two of the six seats in Central Gujarat, namely Chotta Udaipur and Dohad, are tribal dominated.
Modi had launched welfare schemes worth Rs 14,000 crore in the tribal belt which stretches from Ambaji in North Gujarat which touches Rajasthan and goes on to Dahod on the Madhya Pradesh border upto Saputara, a kissing distance away from Maharashtra.
