The Women and Child Development Ministry, in coordination with the Railways, has set up help desks at 20 stations, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said in a written reply.
"The runaway/missing/abandoned children are rescued from stations by Child Help Group comprising Station Superintendent/Station Master, Station House Officer/GRP, Inspector/RPF and in trains by GRP, RPF, TTE and ticket collector.
"The children so rescued are handed over to these Child Help Desks and in turn to child welfare committee in coordination with GRP," he said.
Helpline number 182 is also operational for security- related assistance to the passenger in distress.
