The incident took place yesterday and the accused Sultan Ahmed, who hails from neighbouring South Kandigram village, was arrested late last night, official sources said.
His interrogation is on, the sources added.
According to the FIR filed by her mother at Badarpur police station, the girl was allegedly raped by 22-year-old Ahmed when she went to graze cows last evening at North Kandigram village.
The girl is yet to give her statement to the police due to her critical condition, while doctors at Badarpur Srigauri Hospital where she is admitted have conducted the medical tests to ascertain the charge, the sources said.
