The Eighth edition of CEO Conference organised by Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) here on Sept 25 will discuss on how to overcome the challenges in the textile business especially under the 'Make In India' program of the Government.
Since clothing needs of the people is on the rise, it is needless to mention that Indian textile industry has a bright future and is a sunshine industry.
Currently, the hurdles before the industry are tariff barriers, glut in the demand, Chinese policy on textile imports, tariff advantages of competing countries, a SIMA release said today.
The theme of the Conference would be, "Make in India - Challenges in Textiles" and was chosen taking into consideration the vision of the Prime Minister on the need for boosting textile manufacturing activities in the country and exports.
Stating that Make in India would be feasible only when the products are manufactured economically with competitive prices in the globalized environment, it said that policies of Central government, fluctuations in cotton prices, external factors and policy of China pose challenges for the Indian textile industry to be competitive.
Under this scenario, the association has chosen this topic which has some relevance in the current context by bringing expert on the factors affecting both external and internal along with various State government polices and schemes.
While the textile industry is contented with record production of cotton, it is worried over the reduction trends in prices of cotton and cotton yarn.
The industry which has been hitherto facing the power shortage is now much relieved with power availability.
However, this could not be converted into advantage as there is glut in both domestic and international markets, the release said.
The Conference is organised coinciding the 58th Annual General Meeting of SIMA.
