The External Affairs Ministry said today that nine cases have come to its notice in the last three years of children of Indian living abroad being separated from their parents.
In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State V K Singh said these cases pertain to New York, Norway, Australia, Kenya and Copenhagen.
Abuse and beating of child and other reasons as per the local rules and regulations are cited among the factors for taking the children away from their parents.
The ministry has urged the governments of the respective countries to take a humane approach and to send the children back to India so that they can be brought up in their own ethnic, religious, cultural, spiritual and linguistic milieu and social environment, Singh said.
