: An abandoned new born girl was today handed over to officials manning the government's cradle baby scheme.
Officials said the 22-year-old woman had given birth to the baby on August 5 at the government hospital here. Both mother and child were found weak. Five days later she left the baby there and disappeared.
Doctors kept the baby alive by feeding it milk.
Efforts to trace the woman proved futile as the address she had given turned out to be false. Following this the hospital filed a police complaint
Doctors today handed over the baby to Social welfare officer in charge of the scheme.
