For the first time this season, monsoon has registered a marginal rise of one per cent above normal with a good amount of rainfall across the country.
All regions, barring the east and northeast, have started recording monsoon above the normal limit. The northeast and eastern regions are at present experiencing monsoon deficiency.
"Heavy to very heavy rain very likely at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh and at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh and at isolated places in Vidarbha; heavy at isolated places over East Rajasthan, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands," India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its forecast for tomorrow.
According to IMD, the country as a whole received 218.2 mm of rainfall as compared to normal of 215.3 mm, which is 1 per cent more than the normal precipitation the country receives from June 1 to July 6.
Northwest India, where the rainfall has been playing hide and seek in many parts, including Delhi, ever since the monsoon hit the region last week, has also recorded 19 per cent more rains than normal. Similarly, the southern peninsula and central India got 16 and 4 per cent more rains.
The Northeast and east India have recorded a deficiency of 17 per cent. IMD had earlier made a forecast that the region may not get good rainfall as compared to the rest of the country. States like Assam and Meghalaya have also recorded deficiency of 34 per cent while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura witnessed deficiency of 32 per cent.
The deficiency in Saurashtra and Kutch and Gujarat region has been hovering around 51-52 per cent.
