Accountant gets 4-year RI in 2015 graft case

A special CBI court here today convicted a senior accountant in a 2015 corruption case and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment.
The court sentenced Haridas Narsimha Raju, a senior accountant at the accountant general's office here, to four years of rigorous imprisonment, after finding him guilty under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, a CBI release said.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict.
The case against Raju was registered on April 20, 2015, on the basis of a complaint, wherein it was alleged that the accountant had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs one lakh from the complainant in return for an official favour.
Raju was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000 as the first instalment, the release said.
