Tech giant Acer is keen on tapping into the nascent but fast-growing Indian gaming industry and will launch a new range of laptops around Diwali to address the market.
The company, which already has the Predator and Nitro series, today launched a new product -- Predator Helios 300 -- priced at Rs 1,29,999.
"The number of gamers in India is rising and that presents a huge market opportunity. Gaming is about 3-4 per cent of the total PC market and we expect this to double in the next 1-2 years," Acer India CMO and Consumer Business Head Chandrahas Panigrahi told PTI.
He added that while the segment contributes similar numbers to its own revenues, it has seen a 2X growth in the numbers.
"We already have two lines of devices -- Predator and Nitro -- for serious gamers in India. We plan on bringing in a new range around September-end before Diwali," he added.
Panigrahi, however, declined to disclose details in terms of pricing and specification of the devices.
The Predator Helios 300 line comes with 15.6-inch display and is powered by seventh generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM (upgradable to 32GB) and 256GB solid state drive.
It will be available in India exclusively through e- commerce platform, Flipkart.
PC makers Dell (Alienware) and HP (Omen) have also launched their premium range of gaming devices in the past few months in the Indian market to target the growing community of gaming enthusiasts in India.
According to a CII report, India's gaming industry was valued at USD 543.08 million in 2016 and is projected to cross USD 800 million by 2022.
Computer gaming segment accounted for a share of 15.54 per cent of the Indian gaming market at USD 84.4 million in 2016.
The gaming industry in India has grown rapidly over the last decade, predominantly on the back of increasing smartphone and Internet penetration coupled with rising income levels in the country.
