Government will take strictest possible action against those who indulge in violence against the Christian community, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said here today.
The Home Minister conveyed this to a three-member Christian delegation, led by Albert D'Souza, Archbishop of Agra and Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), who called on him here.
"Singh assured full security and protection to them and mentioned that strictest possible action will be taken by the Centre against the persons who indulge in such acts," a Home Ministry official said.
The Home Minister also expressed hope that the state governments would extend their full cooperation in maintaining law and order and communal harmony in the country.
The visiting delegation thanked Singh for providing adequate security for religious places of different minorities.
They said that the personal interest and assurance on these issues by the Home Minister has given confidence to the minorities, the release said.
There were several incidents of alleged vandalism of Churches and educational institution in Delhi and other Northern states in recent past which led to the Home Minister asking the police to take all necessary action for their protection.
