Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said his government will take action against corrupt officials and that no one will go scot-free.
"We are cracking the whip (against corrupt officials). No one will go scot-free," he told reporters after chairing the cabinet meeting here.
"This is the focus of the government and any instance of illegal activities, whenever it comes to the notice of the government, we are ensuring that all these do not go un punished," he said.
The Chief Minister was responding to a query on the reported ghost labourers at the sericulture and weaving department siphoning off several lakhs of rupees.
Mukul Sangma said that if there are certain compromises resorted to by any officer of the department then they will have to pay the price and that no one will get away with it.
"Any irregularity, whatever is it in any department, whenever brought to the notice of the government all this kind of instances are taken note by the government very seriously and on this basis other actions will be followed," he said.
The Chief Minister claimed that his government has come up with at least three legislations to counter corruption.
One is the enactment of the right to information act and the appointment of the Lokayukta. The other being the social auditing act, the drafting of rules has reached an advanced state, he said.
"Everything is going to be transparent. People are not going to hide. This shows the complete commitment with which the government wants to socialise the system to enable it to become very efficient, corrupt free governance in the future," Mukul said.
He said there were a number of arrests made in West Garo Hills district for illegal mining based on a direction from his office.
"There are many other instances which have come to my notice and direction has been given by me to file an FIR. In fact, number of persons has been arrested also," he said.
