Addl secy in MHA cleared for Jharkhand return, may be named CS

Additional Secretary in the Home Ministry, Rajiv Gauba, was today relieved from central deputation for repatriation to his parent cadre -- Jharkhand -- where he is likely to take over as the new Chief Secretary.
A 1982-batch IAS officer, Gauba was looking after the Naxal and Kashmir desk in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Jharkhand government had requested that Gauba be relieved from his duties at the Centre to enable him to take over as the new Chief Secretary of the state. He is likely to replace Sajal Chakravorty, a 1980-batch IAS officer, who has a tenure till March, 2016.

An official order today said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the proposal for repatriation of Gauba to his parent cadre.
In case of Gauba's appointment, Chakravorty may move out to the Centre.
Gauba is believed to have been selected by the new state government led by Chief Minister Raghubar Das keeping in mind his expertise in multilateral financial institutions and Information Technology and in dealing with the Naxal menace. Jharkhand is one of the Left-Wing Extremism-affected states.
Gauba, 55, has worked at the International Monetary Fund and also served in the Indian Embassy at Washington.
