Following a request from Hyderabad police, the Government ordered detention of the Pakistani national Mohd Arshad Mahamood at the same Warangal Central Prison where he served his sentence.
A court on April 30, 2009, had convicted Mahamood, a businessman from Jethabhuta Bazar in Raheem Yar Khan district of Punjab in Pakistan, under the Foreigners Act and the section 3 of Official Secrets Act ('penalties for spying'), and sentenced him to 14 years' rigorous imprisonment.
He was lodged in Central Prison, Warangal. He was due to be released today after getting benefit of remission.
The Government Order was issued today. Once his identity is established by the Pakistan Government, he would be issued a one-way travel document by the Pakistan High Commission, it said.
