Calling the upcoming Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad polls in Maharashtra as a test by fire for the BJP, state unit chief Raosaheb Danve today asked his partymen to work unitedly towards victory and outdo their last performance in local bodies elections.
Danve made this appeal while addressing the party's state executive meeting here in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other senior party leaders including V Satish, Rakesh Singh and Vinay Sahastrabuddhe.
"People are happy with BJP and its performance at the state and Centre, and this is evident from the recent results of local bodies elections where the party emerged victorious," said.
During the last two and two and half years the party had fulfilled a number of promises and this was the reason why people elected the BJP over others, he said.
The next elections in February is an 'agni-pariksha' (test by fire) for the BJP, Danve said.
The state leadership and organization would do its work. Give all your support for victory. Party workers at all levels should execute their responsibilities only with the aim of winning the (upcoming) elections and look to improve the position of the party in the state, Danve said.
On demonetisation, Danve said that despite criticism on this front from several quarters, BJP won the recent elections, which he said was due to the tireless effort put in by workers at grassroot level.
Also, its because of huge public support that we could perform well, he said.
Elections to 10 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, Thane and Pune, will be held on February 21.
While Polls to 26 Zilla Parishads will be held in two phases on February 16 and 21, followed by counting of votes on February 23.
