'Agri sector scaled new heights in AIADMK rule

: Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R Duraikannu today claimed the state had scaled new heights in agriculture in the last five years under AIADMK rule.
The state had achieved a record agriculture production of 1.30 crore tonnes last year, for which the Centre had given the State the coveted "Krishi Karman" award, he said.
Speaking at a workshop organised as part of ongoing AgriIntex here, he said waiver of farmers' loans to the tune of Rs5,780 crore was a milestone in the history of agriculture sector in the Country.
In his address, the Municipal Adminsitration minister S P Velumani said that Jayalalithaa government had provided Rs 23,000 crore worth cooperative loans for the benefit of farmers in the last five years.

Agriculture production had increased by 63 per cent over the estimated 1.27 crore tonnes, he said.
Meanwhile, some AIADMK workers expressed unhappiness against the organisors for not displaying the CM's photograph on banners displayed at the venue.
As Tamil Nadu Agricultural University are joint organisors along with Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, the invitation also did not carry the photographs, they claimed.
