"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gradually proving to be correct...Whenever a new system takes birth, there is inconvenience...People opposed economic liberalisation. Subsequently, it proved to be good for the country," he told PTI.
Singh made it clear that he was making these remarks in his personal capacity and not as a leader of the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh.
He said a raid in Rajasthan where large sum of money was allegedly recovered proved that "people in establishment were in connivance with those hoarding cash and the Prime Minister was forced to take such a step".
While Amar Singh said that he supported the ban on high denomination notes, he distanced himself from a video posted on social media, where a man standing next to him is seen using abusive language against the Prime Minister while slamming the demonetisation move.
The SP general secretary said the man has committed cyber crime by using the former's face to attack the PM. He said the man met him at a hotel lobby and requested for a selfie, but started using foul language.
