Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today lashed out at Congress leader Amarinder Singh for holding a rally at Amritsar against drug menace, claiming such rallies are of no use to the state as it is just the politicisation of this serious issue.
Badal said rather than politicising the drugs issue in the state by organising political rallies, all the political parties, NGOs and the general public must join hands to eliminate this menace from the state.
He said, "Lalkar rally (organised by Amarinder at Amritsar) held by the Congress on the issue of drugs will serve no purpose as it is just the politicisation of this grave issue."
"Instead of political motive, such rallies are of no use as it will not help the state in any manner," he said.
Amarinder today held an impressive rally in Amritsar to take on SAD-BJP regime on several issues including drug abuse.
On SAD-BJP alliance in the upcoming Delhi polls, the Chief Minister claimed that the alliance would "sweep these polls" as there was a strong undercurrent in its favour.
Badal further said that he would soon visit Delhi for campaign in favour of the alliance candidates.
Replying to another query, he said the issue of nominating any person as its chief ministerial candidate was the sole prerogative of any political party.
However, he said Kiran Bedi had already proved her mettle in every field be it be police service or social welfare.
"Bedi has a proven track record of a committed police officer, an able administrator, a true philanthropist and above all a great humanitarian," he said.
On a query regarding the media reports pertaining to decision of Union government to select him with Padma award, the chief minister said, the unstinted love and support bestowed upon him by the people of the state was the biggest award for him.
Badal said that the state government was committed for preserving the hard earned peace of the state at any cost.
