Amarmani Tripathi, wife sent to district jail

After the recommendation of medical board of BRD Medical College here, former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife, who are serving life sentence in poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case, were today sent to district jail after spending over two years in the hospital.
Both Amarmani and his wife, Madhumani, had been admitted in a private ward of BRD Medical College since February 26, 2013.
"The action has been taken on directions of the government. The report of the medical board of the college was yesterday sent to the government," Principal BRD College R P Sharma said.
The couple were shifted to the district jail at about 12 noon in a private ambulance.

Amarmani and his wife were sentenced to life imprisonment after they were convicted for Madhumita's murder in Lucknow in 2003.
The trial was shifted from UP to Uttarakhand on the request of Shukla's family. The trial court in Dehradun had held the couple and three others guilty of murder and slapped life sentence on them in 2007.

In July 2012, the Uttarakhand HC upheld the life imprisonment following which they were serving their sentence at Dehradun Jail.
However, Madhumani got herself transferred to Gorakhpur hospital citing an ailment in 2008 and Amarmani followed suit in 2012.
The slain poetess' sister, Nidhi Shukla, had taken up the matter in the court alleging that the couple was not suffering from any ailment.

Amarmani's son, Amanmani, was in news recently after his wife, Sara, was killed in a road accident in Firozabad district. The case is being probed by CBI after her family members alleged that she was murdered.
